Developed nations take massive hits and require years of rebuilding to get back to normal. However, the results can be much worse for developing states, as they lose what little economic growth momentum they had.

Dambisa Moyo, who has looked at the effects that economic slow downs can have on developing nations, argues it is only through econoic growth that a society can achieve upward mobility, opportunity and improved living standards.
